ParaPride is an empowerment charity that advocates for the visibility, education and awareness of LGBTQ+ disabled people
What is ParaPride?
ParaPride is an empowerment charity that advocates for our LGBTQ+ disabled community and their allies. We do this through events, workshops and research. At ParaPride, we believe that every LGBTQ+ disabled person has the right to feel safe, welcome and included.
Pride in Everybody
Our mission
is to address the lack of inclusion for disabled people within the LGBTQ+ community; to provide more accessible LGBTQ+ spaces; and to promote celebration of our different bodies.
Our challenge
is to correct the misrepresentation of disabled people as a vulnerable community in need of special care. We are much more than that and do not want to be defined by our disabilities. We are only disabled by the barriers presented by society.
.
Together, we shared our experiences and explored how intersecting identities impact disabled LGBTQ+ and marginalised communities, culturally. We also talked about activism, the pride and empowerment that comes with it, as well as the struggles.
.
The recorded event will be shared across our digital channels soon. Make sure you don't miss it.

Have you noticed that Olympians are described as “competing”, while Paralympians are often said to just be “participating”?
It may seem like a small difference, but language is important. Disabled athletes are often praised simply for taking part in sport, which ignores their incredible dedication to their sport and their sporting achievements.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) says “Language plays an instrumental role in how people are perceived, especially when it comes to persons with disabilities and Paralympians. It’s important we get the language right.”
Paralympians aren’t just participants, they’re world-renowned athletes at the
absolute top of their game, it’s time the words we use to describe them reflect that.
Join ParaPride at our Paralympics Viewing Party in London on the 31 st August to celebrate the achievements of the Paralympians COMPETING at the Paris 2024 Games.

Here are 5 things you may not know about the Paralympic Games that might answer some of the most common questions people have about the games:
- When did they start?
- Where does the name come from?
- What kinds of sports are involved?
- If athletes have physical differences, how do they make sure the games are fair?
Want to celebrate the Paralympics with us?
Come along to our Paralympics Viewing Party on 31st Aug in London to watch the games on the big screen, take part in fun activities, and meet new friends in a safe and accessible environment.

They prioritise year-round advocacy, promotion and donations to LGBTQ+ charities (having raised around £10,000 so far). Similarly, disabled people can have a complicated relationship with their own bodies and a staggering 50% of UK adults with a disability said their body image negatively affected their self-esteem, compared to 35% among non-disabled people.
In our celebration of LGBTQ+ disabled people we promote awareness of the need for this to change, by advocating for better representation of all types of bodies and encouraging our community to realise the beauty in their own. We have pride in everyONE and in everyBODY.
